Seham Alsanaani, a student at Kenansville Elementary

Seham Alsanaani is an 8th grade student at Kenansville Elementary School (KES).  Seham came to the United States from Yemen in 2019 and spoke no English. She appreciates DCS giving her the opportunity to learn English and prepare her for college. Health-Science or Art are the areas that Seham is most interested in and she is thinking about pursuing those areas in college. She enjoys her teachers because they are so helpful and fair. Seham says KES is special because the teachers and staff care so much about her. Seham is eager to learn and works hard in all that she does, setting an example for other classmates to follow.

Jamie Bell, Elementary STEAMA Facilitator, shares how STEAMA support student learning

Mrs. Jamie Bell teaches the STEAMA class for elementary grade students at Kenansville Elementary School (KES). She supports learning at KES by working with our teachers and staff to integrate STEAMA activities into the classroom lessons being taught to her students. She says that Duplin County Schools is unique because of the Agriculture component of STEAMA which is so prevalent in Duplin County. Mrs. Bell is proud of the many opportunities that she is able to give her students through her STEAMA class, such as instilling the value of working together, even though we may not always agree and have different opinions.
