KES Media Center

DLMC: Ms. Victoria Newkirk
Hello! I’m a proud Duplin County native and a graduate of Wallace-Rose Hill High School. After more than a decade in the classroom, I’m excited to continue serving our community as the Digital Learning & Media Coordinator at Kenansville Elementary School.
I’m a licensed 6–12 Social Studies educator with a B.A. in History from UNC Pembroke and a Master’s in Library & Information Science from UNC Greensboro. Most importantly, I’m passionate about creating a warm, welcoming library space that inspires a love of reading, strengthens digital skills, and keeps students curious, engaged, and excited to learn.
I truly value community support and involvement. If you’d like to volunteer in the library, partner with us, or share ideas that help promote literacy and learning at KES, please don’t hesitate to reach out. I’d love to connect!

Fall 2025 Going Local Grant Recipient! The KES Media Center highlights the Agricultural “A” in STEAMA by updating and expanding our collection to celebrate the rich agricultural history and continued economic impact of our local farming community. We also welcome donations of gently used agricultural related toys or resources for our media center!

Awarded over $1,700 in DonorsChoose funding, the KES Media Center is dedicated to promoting reading for pleasure while also using literature to explore cultural diffusion and diverse perspectives. These funds will be used to purchase resources that celebrate the diversity of our school and community and to expand our catalog with high-interest, current, and popular texts students want to read—including graphic novels, which research shows can significantly increase reading motivation. National Literacy Trust findings report that children who read comics or graphic novels in their free time are nearly twice as likely to enjoy reading overall compared to children who do not, making this format a powerful gateway for reluctant readers and an effective way to strengthen comprehension through multimodal literacy.
