School Social Worker
Katelin West, MSW
Hi Tigers!

My name is Katelin West, and I’m the School Social Worker at Kenansville Elementary School. I graduated from University of North Carolina Wilmington in 2023 with a Bachelor’s degree in Social Work and a minor in Elementary Education. In 2024, I earned my Master’s degree in Clinical Social Work Practice, also from UNCW.
I’m so glad to be part of this school community and to work alongside our students, families, and staff. Our school values kindness, respect, responsibility, and helping one another, and I strive to reflect those values in my work every day. I partner closely with families and staff to support students both at school and at home.
Please feel free to reach out anytime — we’re all working together to help our students grow, learn, and succeed in every circumstance.

What is a school social worker?
According to the National Association of Social Workers (NASW) “School social workers are an integral link between school, home, and community in helping students achieve academic success. They work directly with school administrations as well as students and families, providing leadership in forming school discipline policies, mental health intervention, crisis management, and support services.
As part of an interdisciplinary team to help students succeed, school social workers also facilitate community involvement in the schools while advocating for student success.”
